Unexpected haul

Decided to visit my local hobby store today during lunch hour as it’s been a while since I been there. Check out their website before hand on what’s available, especially those older figures that I plan to get. When I reach there something else caught my eyes instead, lo and behold, its Shunya Yamashita Rosanna starring right at me.

Now Shunya’s stuff been getting a lot of spotlight lately with Danny’s review on Mirei-san and super rats beautiful photos of Rosanna, so I have been planning to get one of Shunya’s figure myself. I wanted to get Mirei-san, but she’s sold out everywhere, so I though I might as well wait for Non-non in August. Never would have thought that I will still be able to get Rosanna and here she’s on the shelf starring right at me.

It would have been quite an easy choice but then I was quite interested in getting another figure that’s just next to Rosanna, and she’s Amaha Masane casual dress version by Kotobukiya. Well if you compare the two of course Rosanna would have win hands down but Amaha Masane was cheaper :) .

After looking at the two and putting them down, and looking at them again I guess the guy there decided to help me out by telling me that’s the last Rosanna they have, non of their branches have her anymore. So in the end I took both of them and put them on the counter. Few minutes later I walk out of the store with my wallet lighter but with a grin on my face for getting two very nice figures :) .

Oh well enough of story, now for a preview pictures….. tada

And here’s a link for you to enjoy more of Shunya Yamashita’s artwork

Rosanna

Finally I have completed my photo session for Rosanna. Took longer than usual for me to post up photos of my latest girl but I think it’s well worth the wait :) . Before I bought Rosanna, I have already seen some figures based on Shunya Yamashita’s illustration, the first being Sera-chan. At the time they don’t really attract me much until I saw the Kotobukiya exclusive Mirei San, she caught my attention and spark my interest in Yamashita’s work. Rosanna wasn’t my first choice as my first Art of Shunya Yamashita figure, she was more of an impulse buy. Taking a closer look now and I am really glad that i bought her as she looks really great. She’s a mix of fantasy and heavy metal style as can be seen from her physic defying outfit and huge sword.

Now on to the pictures….

Click for larger image

Instead of the usual plain background, a wrapping paper is use for this photo session. It works pretty well and using a netting as a veil, she looks more mysterious.

Click for larger image

She’s most probably the only figure in my collection with a more realistic body propotion.

Click for larger image

She was sculpted by Eiichi Ishida who did a good job in capturing her looks based on Yamashita’s illustration. The design of the outfit is very nice and very revealing too.

See how physic defying her outfit is, makes you wonder how it stay on, hmmm…

Very nice eye, too bad the other is covered though

Welcome to Pia Carrot

Welcome to Pia Carrot…I guess that’s what Sana would say. She’s a character from the game Pia Carrot G.O., one of the many game from the Pia Carrot franchise of dating sim. Actually I didn’t know all that before I got the figure, I only found info on her when I google for it :P . The only reason I got her was she’s super cute ^^.

Sana is sculpted by Youzo Ogawa and manufactured by Kotobukiya. The detail on her is quite good from the meido outfit to the little wings on her back, you can even see a small little fang. For a superb review and photos on her check out super rats blog.

Don’t have any props that resemble a restaurant (Pia Carrot is a restaurant in the game) so I just reuse the sofa I use in Sakura’s shots.

Click for larger image

She comes with an additional chest piece that I guess suppose to enhance her chest ^^.

Click for larger image

Look closely and you can see the little fang, now that’s detail ^^. And then there’s the little bat wings.

I don’t really do a lot of pantsu shot, but for Sana it’s so easy to take the shot ^^.

Mirei-san 海麗さん

Anyone who has been following my blog would know how much trouble I had to go through in getting her. There was a pre-order for her at Play-Asia before she was release but at the time I wasn’t that interested in getting her. After seeing the photos Danny posted at his blog, it got me really interested in getting this absolutely cute and sexy figure. So as usual I contacted my friend and only then did I found out that she’s actually a Kotobukiya online store exclusive and most shop that have her are selling at a premium price.

Fast forward about a month later, I searching through numerous sites for her I found that there’s a US release around end of June. I found her on pre-order at Anime Wild and without thinking too much about it I quickly pre-ordered her, which is something I’ll come to regret later. I should be happy that I manage to pre-order her right, but no, I waited and waited for her to arrive, a week past, 2 weeks…. and my numerous e-mail to them asking them about it did not get any reply. Later my local store have her in stock, and since I do not know what happen to my shipment from Anime Wild, I bought her from my local store instead, slightly more expensive though.

More than a week past and to my surprise she arrive after more than a month of waiting. So that’s how I ended up with two Mirei ^^. I posted in a local forum that I wanted to sell my second Mirei and I quickly got response and a few days after that, it’s time for me to say goodbye to my second Mirei as I ship her off.

Click for larger image

Mirei is sculpted by Houjun Otoyama and she comes with an extra hand and hair piece, so you can pose her with her hair down or up, and with her hand on her leg or holding a pen. I would have prefer her to come with the glasses as in the illustration though.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

She’s very well sculpted and painted, except for some painting chipping of on her right foot due to the removable shoe. That was more due to me putting on the shoe a bit too tight though.

Mirei and pastries ^^, good thing she can sit on the sofa, tried to sit her on the big pillow but that didn’t work though, so it become a sleeping pose instead :P

Mire in the office, this was the reason why it took me so long to do a Mirei photo-shoot. It took me quite sometime to build the wall and the table I am using for this shot, it wasn’t as easy to make as I first though haha. A lot more props were use in this shots but I think it came out pretty good ^^.

A final closeup shot of Mirei kawaii face. I did a lot of shots of her with her hair up as I prefer that look more ^^. She just look a lot more cuter and sexier with her hair up ^^.

Well after all the trouble I went through, I am really glad that I manage to get her, or two of her in the end, though the other one was sold off, I still own her for a few days. She’s the second figure based on Shunya Yamashita’s illustration that I have in my collection, the third was suppose to be Non-non but I have cancel my order on her, I’ll be getting Cocona instead which I like more.

Chidori and Tessa

I have never really been a fan of Bome figure but not because the figures are not nice, it’s more because they uses clamp shell packaging. I have always prefer box packaging instead of clamp shell, at least with box I have a place to store the figures if I need to move or something, and boxes always looks nice :) . So how did I ended up with 2 Bome figures, simple, they were cheap and I have always wanted some figures from the anime Full Metal Panic. I got them for less than 30 bucks, though they are already open which mean no packaging, but they are in good condition, so it’s a steal :) .

Kaname Chidori and Teletha Tessa Testarossa (should just call her TTT XD) are from the anime Full Metal Panic or more specifically, these two are based on Full Metal Panic! The Second Raid. They have the honor to be the first two figures to be have a photo session using my new EOS 400D. I am not sure if the picture are any better than when I was using the 850IS, as there are still a lot of things I need to figure out about the camera. Shots are done using M, Av and A-DEP mode, with custom white balance. I directly connect my camera to my pc so that I can preview the shots right after I took them.

Not much props were use this time, as I can’t really think of a good setting for them, so it’s back to basic. I was being a bit lazy so only 1 color background is use, but kinda feel that it’s really the best color for them.

Start off with Tessa, she’s small, just about 10cm with the base. She’s wearing her Mithril uniform and playing with her hair, which she really do in the anime.

Nice detail on the uniform, with Mithril emblem on both her arm. The base she’s sitting on is also Mithril emblem and there are actually writings on it. One is the name of her submarine, the other two I am not very sure what they mean.

Since the camera have auto bracketing, I try out HDR again with this shot. I use something that resemble a hanger as a background, her base is infront of her to make it look like Mithril emblem is painted on the floor. The larger image will show more of the emblem.

Next up is Kaname Chidori, in her school uniform and holding a Harisen on her left hand. Chidori is about 14cm from the base to her hair. The barbie’s sofa made a triumphant return XD.

Quite nice detail on her uniform, but the hair sculpt kinda rough though, but if I remember correctly the anime artstyle kinda look like that, been a while since I watch it XD. Will rewatch it again once my FMP dvd arrive.

Very very long hair, not as detail as I would like though.

While Tessa base is Mithril emblem, Chidori’s base is a pinky oval shape base with the word Full Metal Panic (in japanese) TRS written on it.

As this is the first time I purchase a Bome figure, I am not really sure what to expect from it. Overall the figures are nice and solid, the painting is good with no visible bleeding. The sculpt is kinda rough though on certain part but still acceptable. Forgot to mention that both figures is connected to the base using a single peg, so you can spin them around the base if you want XD.

Even after getting this two girls, Bome if still not my choice for figures, but there’s another figure set that I want and only Bome has it, it’s Eclair and Lumiere from Kiddy Grade, no other company seems to have release figures of them except for Bome, but only if I can get them cheap XD.

Emiya and Saber in suits

After my last Saber purchase, ebCraft 1/7 Saber, I thought that will be the last Saber that I am gonna buy until they release a version of her in her blue dress. Then suddenly Max Factory announce they will be releasing Fate/Zero Emiya and Saber, and after seeing the prototype, I just couldn’t resist getting both of them. Displaying them with their bases joint together is really a good marketing strategy, it looks so good you just have to get both XD.

Saber was suppose to be release in December but was delay, and in the end was release together with Emiya, which is good, since I plan to do their shoot together anyway. Let’s start off with a shot inspire by lu-k’s silhouette shot of Emiya and Saber.

Click for larger image

Both Emiya and Saber comes dress in black suits, which looks cool, especially Emiya’s, with his long trench coat. The custom base they came with can be put together, with Emiya and Saber standing back to back. Emiya comes with a pair of exchangeable right hand, one to hold his gun and the other to hold his cigarette.

Sculpt and paint work is excellent as expected from Max Factory, even the shoes are painted with a shiny look to it. Detailing is good as well on both Emiya and Saber.

Compare to Emiya, Saber does looks a little plain, with her upright pose. On closer look there’s some nice detail like the bracelet on her right hand, the little handkerchief in her suit pocket. This version of Saber looks quite manly compare to the rest of the Saber in my collection XD.

Saber’s Excalibur, there’s some writing on the blade but can’t really make out what it is though. She comes with an additional hand but it’s just a clenched fist though.

With the addition of Fate/Zero Saber, I now have a total of 8 Sabers ^^. I still hoping someone would release a Saber in her blue dress, same as the one release by Clayz, and my Saber collection will be complete.

Motoko Kusanagi

Motoko Kusanagi is one of the main character in Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell series. This figure is based on her appearance in the movie Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Solid State Society. There are two Motoko figures that I like, this is one of them, the other is the one release by Alter last year if I not mistaken, where she’s holding a handgun.

This figure is suppose to be Amazon Japan limited if I am not mistaken, but somehow my local shop manage to get a few of her. I have been tempted to get her for quite sometime but decided to wait for my local shop sales before I grab her, fortunately she was still available during the recent sales.

Wish I had a matrix like background for the shoot, but a black bg is all I have that suits her. She came with a transparent green base with the name of the movie she’s based from on it. She can stand perfectly well without the base though. The one thing that really attract me to this version of her is the trench coat, it just looks so cool.

Detail and sculpt are pretty good, and the paint job as well, but then she doesn’t have a lot of colors ^^. The sunglasses is kinda plain though, and kinda scratch too.

Not much shots this time around, she doesn’t really have a lot of angle that I can shoot from anyway. Well for more photos of her head over to lu-k’s blog.

Well I am glad I manage to get her cheaper due to sales ^^. I find that during sales, it’s the time when I start buying figures that I never though I’ll get or figures that I decide to skip when released due to budget reason. It’s also the time when I spend more on figures than I should xD.

Aria ~ Alicia Florence

I have never watch the anime Aria and all I know about Aria is the setting kinda looks like Venice with the canals and gondolas, so I have no idea who’s Alicia Florence before or after I bought her :P . Well guess I should sit down and watch the anime one of these days, after all it’s feel funny to get a figure that I know nothing about xD.

Anyway I got her when she was restock at Hobby Search recently and ship her together with my Fraulein Revoltech Asuka. It beats shipping a Revoltech alone which gonna be costly, and Alicia is really a nice figures even though I have never really plan to get her, hooray for impulse purchase ^^.

My initial plan was to find a place with water to shoot her, but being the lazy bum that I am and considering I’ve been going out almost every weekend for photo shoot lately I just feel like staying home and sleep late instead xD. So it’s back to indoor shoot with a basic background and also a good chance to test out my new 50mm f/1.4 prime lens.

I just love her hair and the windblown effect, when you look at her you can just imagine she’s standing by a pier with the wind blowing ^^.

This is probably my favourite angle, I just love the pose and the little detail that is put in to the figure.

She comes screw to a quite a larger transparent base, I guess the empty space is for the cat that she comes with. The cat is umm Aria’s President or something, forgive me for my lack of knowledge on this anime.

Another angle that I like.

Failed at trying to make a diorama of her standing on a pier. Maybe some real water would have been better but I couldn’t find anything to hold the water.

For some nice photos of Alicia head over to lu-k post on her.

After some rearrangement I manage to clear up the small table that I use to put my figures shoot props and background on, which means I have more space for my figures ^^. I have to try to limit my purchase nowadays otherwise I would really have too many figures that I probably have to put them all around my room.

C75 figures preview

Was checking out a few blogs that posted photos of figures reveal during the recent C75 event and a few of them left me drooling for more pics.

First OMG OMG it’s Saber Lily, I am so glad that I decided not to get the figma. It’s still a prototype and no one suppose to take photos of her, but I guess someone manage to sneak a shot XD.

Queen’s Gate Alice

Alice comes from the series Queens Gate which I know nothing about, except that it’s probably the same as the Queen’s Blade series of figures which one of my fellow collector collects. Wasn’t really interested in getting when she was release, I was actually more interested in getting her boost version which you can see here. The high price of the limited boost version kept me from getting her though, she seems to be in-stock at my local store, maybe I’ll consider getting her if there’s sales or something XD.

Anyway back to Alice, I guess looking at photos from her review at blogs like foo-bar-baz or HappySoda kinda makes you grow more interested in figures that you weren’t planning to buy in the first place. That’s what happen to me and I found myself grabbing her from HobbySearch when she was restock, too bad I miss the damage box Alice that HS throws into the bargain though.

Have you ever been poisoned to get a figures from looking at other blogs review photos? Anyway lots of pantsu shots after the jump, not that it’s something I can avoid =P, but you have been warned =D.

Queens Gate Alice

I don’t really own a  lot of Megahouse figures, I think Clare and Alice are probably the only ones I have. They did a pretty good job on Alice, the sculpt and detailing are pretty good, so is the paint job. She comes with a plain transparent base with words embossed on it.

I have to admit that I got the idea for the last shot from HappySoda review of Alice. I think his came out nicer though, I found my shot kinda erotic LOL, probably the angle XD.

Couldn’t really think of any setup suitable for Alice, so I just use back Chua Churam setup and change the background to white and remove the Xmas deco, the fluffy cotton remains.
