Of Bats, Butterflies and Roses ~ The Warrior

Here comes another Ignis write-up, this time it’s Alter version of Ignis. While Max Factory Ignis focus on the feminine side of Ignis, Alter version focus on the warrior side of her. Sculpted by Takahashi Tsuyoshi, Ignis is in a battle pose that really show her warrior side.

Compare to Max Factory elaborate sculp, this Ignis is a much simpler affair. She comes with a simple white base with the game title embossed to it. The figure itself is well balance and able to stand without the base and I think she’s pretty safe from the danger of leaning.

Click for larger image

The first thing that collectors that already have Max Factory Ignis will notice when they pick up Alter Ignis is the color. The color on Alter Ignis is much more duller and darker. Other than that the paint job is still good. I went for a bamboo forest setting for this photo session but because I have no idea where to find bamboo that I can use, bamboo stick will have to do. Added in some weapons that I got to make it looks like Ignis was in a fight, some blood would have been a nice addition as well, but I do not have the coloring for it.

In my opinion she doesn’t have as much nice angle that I can shot from, her best angle is direct from the front. Her left palm is also partially blocking her face so it’s was difficult to get a nice shot of her face.

The lantern that I use as props can actually lights up, so I decide to show that in this shot.

I got Alter Ignis before I manage to get Max Factory version, though not as impressive as Max Factory Ignis, I like the way she’s portray in this version and this is the only Ignis that truly show her warrior side.

AnimeFest @ Taylor’s University College

Went to the AnimeFest organize by Taylor’s University College Anime Club at Subang today. A friend of mine was selling his figures at a booth there, so me and 2 others collectors decided to display our stuff there as well. The event was quite small, with just 2 doujinshi booth, and 3 other commercial booths including my friend’s. We were actually expecting something bigger, so I guess we were a bit disappointed of the size but since this is the first even where we are opening a booth I guess it’s ok.

There were cosplay competition, singing competition and PS2 competition during the event. As expected of the cosplayer, most comes in cosplaying characters from Naruto, Bleach and Death Note. There were some exception like there were some girls cosplaying as Éclair from Kiddy Grade, Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya respectively.

This was what my friend have for sale there and as expected the first one to sell of was the Max Factory Haruhi figure.

I didn’t really take a lot of pictures of the cosplayer and event as most of the ones I did try to take turn up dark because of the dim light and my PNS camera flash is not strong enough. I guess this is when I wish I have and DSLR :) , oh well this are the few shots that are of decent quality.

Some of the club members doing the Lucky Star dance, this is the first time I see this dance as I did not watch Lucky Star. I was hoping for Haruhi dance though.

This is the hall the event as held, quite small, and the lighting is not good. There wasn’t a lot of people, maybe 200-300 people for the whole day I guess.

Click for larger image

This pair is the only cosplayer picture that came out ok, L and Misa from Death Note.

Click for larger image

The event wasn’t what we expected but we are still quite happy with what we achieve. Our booth was practically the center of attention, I think anyone that came with a camera will definitely have some photos of our booth. All the more professional photographers were taking photos of the figures one by one and there was a bunch of them too :) . So I guess we win the most photograph booth if there’s such a price ^^.

Will link to other pics that I find here:

Saber vs Saber

After the release of Revoltech Saber, Kaiyodo follow it up with Saber-Alter for their Revoltech 2G line. Saber-Alter came with the same packaging as Saber, only the colors are different. Included with her is an additional hair piece with her mask attached, her usual black and red sword and Excalibur. She comes with the same stand as Saber as well.

Click for larger image

On a barren wasteland, two warriors stood face to face unmove, until suddenly an unknown voice cuts through the silent “ACTION!!!”.

Click for larger image

With lighting reflexes both warriors spring to action, closing the distance between them in mere seconds, sword raise and ready for battle. The black warriors lunges with a foward thrust, easily block by the blue and silver warrior. The fight goes, both warriors slashing and parrying, thrusting and blocking, the sound of metal against metal rang continuously like a symphony of death.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

As their dance of death continues, the black warrior suddenly jumps up into the air and “CUT!!!!. Here comes the unknown voice again, and what does the voice means “Cut”, both warriors are already cutting each other and more importantly where does the voice comes from.

Click for larger image

And we see a head, a big head to be exact with a familiar looking yellow ribbons, who could this person be, who seems to be giving order to the two deadly warriors.

Unknown voice: No! No! No! both of you are suppose to jump together!
Warriors: Ok.
Unknown voice: ACTION!!!

Click for larger image

And the warriors continue to fight, bringing their dances of death to the air.

Click for larger image

And what is this, it looks like the blue and silver warrior is defeated.

Click for larger image

“CUT!!!” again comes the unknown voice. And what do we have here, we finally get to see the owner of the unknown voice. Seems like a school girl with a really big head, what are they feeding kids these days.

Click for larger image

She seems to be scolding the black warrior. It’s either she’s very brave or very stupid, anyway….

Schoolgirl with big head: NO!!!! You are suppose to lose remember, you are the bad guy and the bad guy don’t win, lets do this again.
Black warrior: Ooooo… I’ll get you for this.

Click for larger image

Seems like the situation been reserve and the black warrior kneel down in defeat. “CUT!!!!” came the voice again, I wonder what is wrong now.

Click for larger image

Oh it seems that this is the end

Schoolgirl with big head: Good work, Good work ^^
Blue and silver warrior: Thank you….
Black warrior: ……

Click for larger image

And the credit rolls… wait, where’s the black warrior ?

Click for larger image

Let’s zoom out to get a wider view. What’s that at the corner, seems to be the black warrior holding a very large weapon.

BAM!!!!!

A sniper rifle! this is suppose to be a medieval sets, why is there a sniper rifle????

Click for larger image

Oh no….. the schoolgirl with big head just lost her big head, and the black warrior is going for the blue and silver warrior now.

BAM!!!!

Click for larger image

As the schoolgirl with big head and the blue and silver warrior laid on the ground lifeless, we hear the maniacal laugh of the black warrior.

Black warrior: Ha ha ha, I won, hahhahhahahahha….. I have my revenge now…hahhahaa

Ice Queen ~ Natsuki Kuga

Natsuki is one of my favourite charater in My-Hime and I have always wanted to get a figure of her in biker suit cause it looks so cool, but alas there’s only 2 resin kit of her in biker suit with no pvc in sight. I am considering getting the resin kit and commission someone to built it for me but it gonna be costly though, so it’s still under consideration.

Anyhow, Griffon released a pvc of Natsuki sometime back, with her in school uniform holding her two guns. It was a figure that I have always wanted to get but the price is kinda expensive and she’s quite small too. When Play-Asia had her for sale at a very cheap price, I quickly ordered her, the price actually went down even more a week or two after I ordered, but wth it was still cheap when i got her.

Initial plan was to get a super bike for her photoshot, but due to Griffon strange sense of scale; Natsuki is actually the same size as my Alter 1/8 Hikaru Death Cloth, I had to scrap that plan as most die-cast bike is either too big or too small. They also don’t have a black color Ducati, which is the bike she rode in the manga and anime. In the end I just went for something simple, a super white shots hehe ^^, cause her element is ice, white should fit her nicely.

Click for larger image

First thing I notice when I took her out of the box is that her peg is on her foot and not the base, so she won’t be able to stand without the base. I dunno why Griffon decide to make it that way but it really sucks. Her base is the usual Griffon base with name plate and dark brown, very simple. Would have been nice if the base were to look like ice jutting out from the groud.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

The detail is nothing to shout about but it ain’t too bad either, at least the guns are nicely made.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Something common with most Griffon figure are the expressionless face, but it kinda fit Natsuki cause she’s pretty cool and serious in the anime.

Click for larger image

She got a very short skirt so pantsu shots are easy to take. Pink pantsu ftw ^^.

Click for larger image

Overall a nice figure though a bit simple and small for something that’s suppose to be 1/7 in size. I am still hoping for a pvc of her in biker suit cause I really like that version of her.

For these shots three lights were use instead of the usual 2, my usual main light is use as underlight to light up the bottom part so I had to use an emergency light as the front light. I think that screw up the white balance a bit so had to do a bit of editing in Photoshop. All the photos level are edited in Photoshop to make it brighter.

Final July haul and another Mirei? WTH is my photo doing on ebay

Today is the last day of July (for me at least), and just in time for me to post up my final July haul. Altogether I have bought 11 figures this month, this is a milestone for me as I have never bought this much figure in a single month since I started collecting about 6 months ago.

So what did I get this time, well there’s the last two Lamento figure Rai and Bardo, there’s Hikaru Death Cloth Ver. (I’ll have to thanks a fellow blogger aka_ugly for informing me of Hikaru availability at Hobby Search), and finally what’s that? What is Mirei doing in there, I have already posted Mirei haul didn’t I. Read on after the jump to find out why.

Click for larger image

Well, I have mention on my earlier Mirei haul post that I ordered Mirei from Animewild which was shipped last month, and after waiting for more than a month it still haven’t arrive. Well today she finally arrive together with my other shipment from Play-Asia, it took her exactly 43 days to arrive and I still do not know why it took so long. Well I am just glad Animewild redeem themself, but probably ain’t their fault, it’s the postal fault I would guess.

So now I got two Mirei, I still haven’t decided to sell her or to keep her, oh well plenty of time to decide on that.

Beside posting my final haul there’s another thing that I want to mention, something that really piss me off. A forumer from a forum that I frequent pm me today that he saw my photos of Wendy Garret being use by an ebay seller here. It really piss me off when I saw that, can’t he goddamn read that I specifically mention on my about page that I do not allow my photos to be use for commercial purpose. And here he’s just taking my photos and put it on his ebay page and he didn’t even remove the watermark ‘Toys Workz’ from it.

Have any of you encounter this situation before ? What do you guys do about it ? I have message the ebay seller not to use my photos but I don’t think he’ll even bother about it. Guess I just have to live with it huh….

Mirei-san 海麗さん

Anyone who has been following my blog would know how much trouble I had to go through in getting her. There was a pre-order for her at Play-Asia before she was release but at the time I wasn’t that interested in getting her. After seeing the photos Danny posted at his blog, it got me really interested in getting this absolutely cute and sexy figure. So as usual I contacted my friend and only then did I found out that she’s actually a Kotobukiya online store exclusive and most shop that have her are selling at a premium price.

Fast forward about a month later, I searching through numerous sites for her I found that there’s a US release around end of June. I found her on pre-order at Anime Wild and without thinking too much about it I quickly pre-ordered her, which is something I’ll come to regret later. I should be happy that I manage to pre-order her right, but no, I waited and waited for her to arrive, a week past, 2 weeks…. and my numerous e-mail to them asking them about it did not get any reply. Later my local store have her in stock, and since I do not know what happen to my shipment from Anime Wild, I bought her from my local store instead, slightly more expensive though.

More than a week past and to my surprise she arrive after more than a month of waiting. So that’s how I ended up with two Mirei ^^. I posted in a local forum that I wanted to sell my second Mirei and I quickly got response and a few days after that, it’s time for me to say goodbye to my second Mirei as I ship her off.

Click for larger image

Mirei is sculpted by Houjun Otoyama and she comes with an extra hand and hair piece, so you can pose her with her hair down or up, and with her hand on her leg or holding a pen. I would have prefer her to come with the glasses as in the illustration though.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

She’s very well sculpted and painted, except for some painting chipping of on her right foot due to the removable shoe. That was more due to me putting on the shoe a bit too tight though.

Mirei and pastries ^^, good thing she can sit on the sofa, tried to sit her on the big pillow but that didn’t work though, so it become a sleeping pose instead :P

Mire in the office, this was the reason why it took me so long to do a Mirei photo-shoot. It took me quite sometime to build the wall and the table I am using for this shot, it wasn’t as easy to make as I first though haha. A lot more props were use in this shots but I think it came out pretty good ^^.

A final closeup shot of Mirei kawaii face. I did a lot of shots of her with her hair up as I prefer that look more ^^. She just look a lot more cuter and sexier with her hair up ^^.

Well after all the trouble I went through, I am really glad that I manage to get her, or two of her in the end, though the other one was sold off, I still own her for a few days. She’s the second figure based on Shunya Yamashita’s illustration that I have in my collection, the third was suppose to be Non-non but I have cancel my order on her, I’ll be getting Cocona instead which I like more.

DVDs, Magazines and Figure…oh and a mat

Not exactly my end of the month haul cause the Hellsing Ultimate DVD shipment will be coming in next week, but this is probably my biggest purchase for August. Let’s see what I have here, there’s Haruhi DVD Vol. 2 Limited Edition, Evangelion Platinum Complete box-set, Megami vol. 088, Replicant vol. 29, Kotobukiya Chise and a green mat.

Got Chise during another Hobby Search restock, she was actually restock quite sometime ago but I didn’t know until I went and look through all the listing under Kotobukiya. A proper photo shoot of her will come later ^^.

Click for larger image

I was curious about the content of Megami magazine, so while browsing around at Kinokuniya I decided to grab one copy just to satisfied my curiosity. I am glad i got this copy of Megami though, cause inside I found a plastic sheet of swimsuit Fate and Nanoha, each taking a side of the plastic, not really sure what’s that thing suppose to be ^^. Now I finally see for myself the content of Megami, lots of poster, pictures of 2D girls hehe ^^.

The other side of the plastic with Nanoha but I’ll be displaying Fate side though ^^.

Haruhi DVD 2 Limited Edition, comes in a simple box and with Mikuru on the cover of the box. Comes with a special variant cover, a double sided pencil board, a Haruhi armband, an iron-on, Bouken Desho Desho ? CD soundtrack and a bonus DVD containing the first 5 episode in TV broadcast order. The main reason I got this set instead of the normal one is because of the bonus DVD of the first 5 episode in TV broadcast order, not even the Japanese release of Haruhi DVD have that ^^. The next 2 Limited Edition Haruhi DVD with have the same bonus DVD of the episodes in TV broadcast order as well, so I’ll be getting them too.

Did I mention Mikuru is on the cover of the box for Haruhi DVD 2 ^^, she’s on the cover of the dvd box as well.

Hellsing and Fate/Stay Night DVDs

Final post for August, suppose to be a post on Kanu haul but she’s delay due to National Day holiday here, so will only get her next week. My Alter Witchblade haven’t ship from Hobby Search as well, she’ll probably only shipped next week, so I’ll do a dvd haul post instead.

Got my Hellsing Ultimate Vol 1 & 2 and Fate/Stay Night Vol 1 earlier this week, wasn’t expecting Fate/Stay Night to arrive so soon since I use expedite shipping instead of priority shipping. So I guess next time I can save some money on shipping by using expedite shipping since it only took slightly over a week for my stuff to reach me ^^.

Fate/Stay Night Vol 1: Advent of the Magi Limited Collector’s Box

I got this from Amazon since Rightstuf was out of stock, got the rest of the series Vol 2 – 6 at Rightstuf but they ran out of Vol 5 so have to wait for them to restock before my order gets ship. This Limited Collector’s box is actually quite plain with only a box to store the whole series and a single disc Vol 1. Not much in terms of extras, so if you’re not a fan of the series, it’ll be better to wait for a box-set instead.

You get Saber on one side of the box and the rest of the character on the other side, nothing really spectacular, just simple and nice I guess. Accompanying the dvd in the shots are Kotobukiya Saber, Griffon Sakura and Alter Black Dress Saber.

As I mention earlier nothing much in terms of extras, just the dvd and an artbox to hold the series. The limited edition of Vol 6 comes with a Saber clock though, but due to the lack of picture of the clock I decided to just get the normal edition.

Hellsing Ultimate Vol 1 Standard Edition & Hellsing Ultimate Vol 2 Limited Edition

Next up is Hellsing Ultimate Vol 1 and Vol 2. Unfortunately I wasn’t able to get the limited edition of Vol 1 which comes with a plague of Alucard. Also only the limited edition comes with 5.1 Japanese audio, the normal edition only comes with 2.0 Japanese audio, so if grab the limited edition if you can find it.

Since I don’t have any Hellsing figures or vampire figures, I’ll be using Nendroid Yuki as a replacement :) . On the right is Vol 1 and on the left is Vol 2 and Yuki reading Hellsing manga ^^.

Click for larger image

Nothing much in Vol 1, just the dvd and some paper insert.

Now Vol 2 is a different story, the 2 dvd is store in a steel case and it comes together with a 200+ pages production art collection book of Hellsing Ultimate 1 and 2.

Sir Integral Fairbrook Wingates Hellsing, master of Alucard. A figure of her won’t be too bad either.

Seras Victoria with a really really big gun. Another figure of her with a big gun will be nice.

Unlike the previous release Hellsing TV series, Hellsing Ultimate is suppose to follow the manga more closely. At the moment it’s not known how many episode it will have, the latest that was release is episode 3 and episode 4 will follow in Oct 2007. Oh each volumes only have 1 episode with a 45 – 50 minutes runtime, but I’ll definitely collect all of them since I like the series ^^. Now if only some company will release a figure of Alucard, I know there’s a Seras Victoria figure, but I haven’t seen Alucard yet.

Witchblade, Power UP!!!

Yup it’s time for another Witchblade post ^^, the last one was like hmmm more than 3 months ago, it was on Kotobukiya 1/6 Witchblade installing version, which is basically the normal version Witchblade. This time it’s the powered up Witchblade release by Alter recently, suppose to be release in July but it was delay, well I finally got her in my hand last week and now my Witchblade collection is complete. Two company release the powered up Witchblade, the first was from Kotobukiya, their version of the powered up Witchblade is even taller and more impressive than their previous 1/6 Witchblade but I decide to go for the Alter version as I somehow Alter version better.

Click for larger image

So how does the Alter Witchblade compare to Kotobukiya’s, not too shabby I would say, it may not be as huge or as impressive as the Kotobukiya’s but it still can hold it’s own in the detail of the sculpt. Tanaka Touji choose a rather static pose for her, with her standing with one arm raise infront of her face and her long blade protuding from both her arms. A bit of dynamism is added to the hair where it swoop around from both side. She’s quite tall, standing at about 27cm from foot to the tip of her blade, the blade itself is already about 22cm from tip to tip, the second blade on her right arm is shorter though. A thing to note is her base, rather than the plain base that usually comes with Alter’s figures, she actually comes with a base sculpted to look like broken stones or rubbles, well the black plain base is still there but at least they added the stones/rubbles to it ^^

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

She’s actually made of a combination of different type of plastic, certain parts of her are actually softer, while some parts are harder plastic. The blade is made of softer plastic and quite flexible but don’t try to bend it in half though ^^.

Click for larger image

Her leg is really slim, though it looks nice, I just hope she won’t lean in the future due to that.

Final pic of all the Witchblade in my collection, in front is of course Alter 1/8 Amaha Masane powered up ver., to her right is Alter 1/8 Amaha Masane casual dress ver., and to her left is Kotobukiya 1/6 Witchblade installing ver.

Click for larger image

Overall I am quite satisfied with Alter’s rendition of Witchblade, the scuplt and quality are top notch. There are slight paint job problem but nothing to be alarm of as it’s barely visible. I actually prefer this to Kotobukiya’s version of powered up Witchblade and Alter’s version being smaller is just a bonus ^^.

A new camera, a new begining..?

As I have mention in my previous post, I was in the process of aquiring a new camera and well tadah, here it is, the Canon EOS400D brand new and just out of the box ^^. Never would have though that I would buy a DSLR but then I have always been quite interested in photography and the Ixus 850IS that I have been using for the past 6 months is getting quite limiting to me, hence an upgrade is needed. Was planning to just get a Poweshot S5IS but after much consideration, I decided to get a DSLR instead as it’s a better investment.

I got the 400D kit that comes with the EFS 17-85mm lens which cost a bit more than the one with the 18-55 lens. The whole package inclues a CF Card, a tripod, a camera bag, a UV filter and a screen protector for the lcd. Damage done was about USD 1230.

Some photos of the camera taken using the Ixus 850IS which will probably won’t see much use now ^^.

Mirei posing for a few more of my test shots. The lens that I got, EFS 17-85 is ok for macro shots, but still it’s nothing compare to a macro lens. The shops doesn’t have the macro lens in stock so will probably try to purchase one sometimes later. Need to save money for it ^^.

This was also a test shot for depth of field but done handheld, which was quite difficult since the camera ain’t light and I am still getting use to the weight.

I am very satisfied with this camera, though there’s still a lot of stuff I need to learn in order to bring out it’s potential ^^. I am still considering whether to sell of my Ixus 850IS though the money I get from it won’t be enough for the macro lens but it still can pay for parts of it XD. So anyone wanna buy my 850IS, still in very good condition XD.
