Gothic style Saber

Ok another Saber is up hehe. This time is Alter version of Dark Saber but instead of wearing armor, she’s wearing a black and grey Gothic dress. She looks real good in it too, one of the best looking 1/8 Saber in my opinion. I first saw pictures of her on Riuva’s blog, so I went looking for her at some of my local hobby store. I was quite surprise when I found one store that have her in stock, because they were selling it at about 9000 yen. Only after I did some search on-line did I know that she’s actually discontinued and a pretty hot figure as well hence the high price. She’s also one of the first figure that I have seen bootleg on, practically most of my local shop is selling the bootleg version. Well with the help of a friend, I manage to get her in the end at about 7000 yen, so she’s actually the most expensive 1/8 that I have in my collection. Well worth it though :)

The highlight of this figure is the Gothic dress, the detail in it is superb

Same as the Saber-Alter I posted up recently, her eyes and hair color are different from normal Saber and she also lost her “ahoge”. Here she still retain her cute face while in Griffon version her face is more serious.

As I mention earlier the dress is very detailed.

The skirt is made of two layers, a grey layer at the bottom and a black on top. All nicely detailed and removable too :)

A closer view of her dress.

I am very satisfied with the quality of this figure, she may cost me more than the other 1/8 that I have but it’s well worth it. The production quality is really good and the amount of detail they put into her is superb.

Rosanna

Finally I have completed my photo session for Rosanna. Took longer than usual for me to post up photos of my latest girl but I think it’s well worth the wait :) . Before I bought Rosanna, I have already seen some figures based on Shunya Yamashita’s illustration, the first being Sera-chan. At the time they don’t really attract me much until I saw the Kotobukiya exclusive Mirei San, she caught my attention and spark my interest in Yamashita’s work. Rosanna wasn’t my first choice as my first Art of Shunya Yamashita figure, she was more of an impulse buy. Taking a closer look now and I am really glad that i bought her as she looks really great. She’s a mix of fantasy and heavy metal style as can be seen from her physic defying outfit and huge sword.

Now on to the pictures….

Click for larger image

Instead of the usual plain background, a wrapping paper is use for this photo session. It works pretty well and using a netting as a veil, she looks more mysterious.

Click for larger image

She’s most probably the only figure in my collection with a more realistic body propotion.

Click for larger image

She was sculpted by Eiichi Ishida who did a good job in capturing her looks based on Yamashita’s illustration. The design of the outfit is very nice and very revealing too.

See how physic defying her outfit is, makes you wonder how it stay on, hmmm…

Very nice eye, too bad the other is covered though

Witchblade and Lacus

Latest addition to my growing figure collection is Kotobukiya 1/6 Witchblade Installing version, and man she’s huge. Will have a photo session with her and Amaha Masane soon. Before that needs to get some inspiration, hmmm maybe watching Witchblade anime and digging up my old Witchblade comics might help.

The two Lacus are for my housemate’s friend, the guy is crazy on anything to do with Kira Yamato, including collecting Kira’s girlfriend figures. Both the Lacus looks pretty good, I hope RAHDX gonna release a Kira figure so that I can put him together with my Freedom gundam.

After this purchase, there probably won’t be another purchase until Sheng Hua and Sana Horiuchi are release, unless I went on another impulse buy. Hopefully I don’t, need to save up for Death Note nendroid, gonna get all four of them and they cost 3000 yen each…

Fate-chan is here!!!

Fate-chan have finally arrive, early than expected actually, I was expecting her to reach either Friday or next week. As I carry the huge box she came in back to my cubicle, I can’t wait to open up the package and take her out. As I open the package, what I saw was disappointing, I guess what I heard was right, that Play-Asia doesn’t pack their figure shipment with enough protection.

250407_alterfatetbox01.jpg

As a comparison I took a picture of the package with my MG Hi-nu box at the bottom, the shipping box is huge. Opening it up reveal Fate-chan’s box with pieces of polystyrene all around it to protect the box. But because Fate-chan box is already as big as the shipping box, some part of the box are damage as only two side of the box are protected.

250407_alterfatetbox02.jpg

Further inspection of Fate-chan box reveal that the top and the back are slightly dented. Most probably due to lack of protection and also the custom officer that opened up the box to check didn’t put it back properly. She was held in custom for 2 days before she was release, luckily tax free :D .

Biggest pvc figure box in my collection, I should take some photos of Fate-chan box with some other figures in my collection to compare their packaging size.

Fate-chan!!!

Took some photos of her out of the box using my temporary photo booth. She’s too big to fit using a single background, so I had to use two, a white as the back and blue for the bottom. I still lack proper lighting as I only have an emergency light that I use as front light and a reflector so the photos came out a bit dark.

Due to the span of her cape, I couldn’t shoot a full view of her.

Actually wanted to shoot the length of Bardiche but due to lack of space only manage to take a portion of it.

Try a top shot, you can see the detail of her hair, cape and ribbon.

Of all the Fate figures that was release, the Alter version is the most impressive, mostly due to the cape and the pose that depict her rising into the air. This is also my first and favourite Fate figure, the Movic version will come second but don’t think I can find that anymore.

MG Strike Noir, Complete

GAT-X105E+AQM/E-X09S Strike Noir is another variation of Strike Gundam that appears in the OVA Mobile Suit Gundam SEED C.E. 73 STARGAZER. The MS belongs to Earth Alliance Phantom Pain and piloted by Sven Cal Bayang. The main difference from Strike Gundam is the lack of a beam saber it instead uses a pair of MR-Q10 “Fragarach” 3 beam blade which are hidden in the wings. The overall build of this kit is good, as usual Bandai quality is always improving. The inclusion of some fixed manipulator to hold the weapons is a nice touch. This is also one of the kit that comes with screws which I haven’t seen for quite sometime. One thing I don’t like is some of the dry transfer are so small that it’s very hard to put it on the MS, so i leave some of the decal out.

Of Bats, Butterflies and Roses ~ The Warrior

Here comes another Ignis write-up, this time it’s Alter version of Ignis. While Max Factory Ignis focus on the feminine side of Ignis, Alter version focus on the warrior side of her. Sculpted by Takahashi Tsuyoshi, Ignis is in a battle pose that really show her warrior side.

Compare to Max Factory elaborate sculp, this Ignis is a much simpler affair. She comes with a simple white base with the game title embossed to it. The figure itself is well balance and able to stand without the base and I think she’s pretty safe from the danger of leaning.

Click for larger image

The first thing that collectors that already have Max Factory Ignis will notice when they pick up Alter Ignis is the color. The color on Alter Ignis is much more duller and darker. Other than that the paint job is still good. I went for a bamboo forest setting for this photo session but because I have no idea where to find bamboo that I can use, bamboo stick will have to do. Added in some weapons that I got to make it looks like Ignis was in a fight, some blood would have been a nice addition as well, but I do not have the coloring for it.

In my opinion she doesn’t have as much nice angle that I can shot from, her best angle is direct from the front. Her left palm is also partially blocking her face so it’s was difficult to get a nice shot of her face.

I got Alter Ignis before I manage to get Max Factory version, though not as impressive as Max Factory Ignis, I like the way she’s portray in this version and this is the only Ignis that truly show her warrior side.

Welcome to Pia Carrot

Welcome to Pia Carrot…I guess that’s what Sana would say. She’s a character from the game Pia Carrot G.O., one of the many game from the Pia Carrot franchise of dating sim. Actually I didn’t know all that before I got the figure, I only found info on her when I google for it :P . The only reason I got her was she’s super cute ^^.

Sana is sculpted by Youzo Ogawa and manufactured by Kotobukiya. The detail on her is quite good from the meido outfit to the little wings on her back, you can even see a small little fang. For a superb review and photos on her check out super rats blog.

Click for larger image

Don’t have any props that resemble a restaurant (Pia Carrot is a restaurant in the game) so I just reuse the sofa I use in Sakura’s shots.

She comes with an additional chest piece that I guess suppose to enhance her chest ^^.

Look closely and you can see the little fang, now that’s detail ^^. And then there’s the little bat wings.

I don’t really do a lot of pantsu shot, but for Sana it’s so easy to take the shot ^^.

Range Murata PSE Pro #05

My first exposure to Range Murata work was his character design in the anime Blue Submarine No.6 and more recently Last Exile but at the time I have no idea who’s Range Murata. Fast forward to last month, when I was at my local hobby store, paying for my Rosanna figure I chat with the guy there a bit about Shunya’s work. Later he mention about Range Murata and showed me some pictures of his work, especially UJ14 and some of his PSE trading figures. Only then I realise that he was the designer for one of my favourite anime Last Exile.

My attempt to hunt down his range of figure was in vain until I visit one of the branch of my local hobby store. That was where I found this figure PSE Pro #05. The figure itself is quite small being a 1/10, so I thought it would be quite cheap, but to my surprise it wasn’t, it cost as much as a 1/6 figure. Due to that I only made the purchase about a month later and luckily she was still there or I would really have regretted of not getting her sooner. Well enough of my ranting, now to the pictures ^^

A very simple setting for these photos.

Even though the figure is quite small, only at about 15cm, she’s quite detail, especially on her bike.

Click for larger image

A little bit of stray paint on the sole of her boot, but only noticeable at close-up. The overall sculpt and paint work are clean and smooth.

Overall I am very satisfied with the quality of the figure, I have never bought anything by Beagle before but it seems they make quality stuff. Range Murata stuff are quite unique in design, I am definitely gonna be on a look out for any new stuff from him.

AnimeFest @ Taylor’s University College

Went to the AnimeFest organize by Taylor’s University College Anime Club at Subang today. A friend of mine was selling his figures at a booth there, so me and 2 others collectors decided to display our stuff there as well. The event was quite small, with just 2 doujinshi booth, and 3 other commercial booths including my friend’s. We were actually expecting something bigger, so I guess we were a bit disappointed of the size but since this is the first even where we are opening a booth I guess it’s ok.

There were cosplay competition, singing competition and PS2 competition during the event. As expected of the cosplayer, most comes in cosplaying characters from Naruto, Bleach and Death Note. There were some exception like there were some girls cosplaying as Éclair from Kiddy Grade, Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya respectively.

This was what my friend have for sale there and as expected the first one to sell of was the Max Factory Haruhi figure.

I didn’t really take a lot of pictures of the cosplayer and event as most of the ones I did try to take turn up dark because of the dim light and my PNS camera flash is not strong enough. I guess this is when I wish I have and DSLR :) , oh well this are the few shots that are of decent quality.

Some of the club members doing the Lucky Star dance, this is the first time I see this dance as I did not watch Lucky Star. I was hoping for Haruhi dance though.

This is the hall the event as held, quite small, and the lighting is not good. There wasn’t a lot of people, maybe 200-300 people for the whole day I guess.

Click for larger image

This pair is the only cosplayer picture that came out ok, L and Misa from Death Note.

Click for larger image

The event wasn’t what we expected but we are still quite happy with what we achieve. Our booth was practically the center of attention, I think anyone that came with a camera will definitely have some photos of our booth. All the more professional photographers were taking photos of the figures one by one and there was a bunch of them too :) . So I guess we win the most photograph booth if there’s such a price ^^.

Another Haul!!! and Mirei?

Another haul ? Yup haha, looks like I am posting more photos of my haul than the figures itself, but I just had to post this one. Why? Well because Mirei is in it ^^ and no this Mirei is not the one I ordered from Animewild, I got this from my local store. I don’t know what happen to my Mirei from Animewild and they are not replying to my e-mails. Probably need to work out something on that soon.

Anyway beside Mirei, I got some re-ment pastries, a square barbie’s cushion/pillow thingy with some chinese take-outs and 3 firearms from  Hot Toys – Modern Firearms Collection2; a M14, a M41A R.I.S w/ M203 and a MP5 SD6.
