Welcome to Pia Carrot

Welcome to Pia Carrot…I guess that’s what Sana would say. She’s a character from the game Pia Carrot G.O., one of the many game from the Pia Carrot franchise of dating sim. Actually I didn’t know all that before I got the figure, I only found info on her when I google for it :P . The only reason I got her was she’s super cute ^^.

Sana is sculpted by Youzo Ogawa and manufactured by Kotobukiya. The detail on her is quite good from the meido outfit to the little wings on her back, you can even see a small little fang. For a superb review and photos on her check out super rats blog.

Don’t have any props that resemble a restaurant (Pia Carrot is a restaurant in the game) so I just reuse the sofa I use in Sakura’s shots.

She comes with an additional chest piece that I guess suppose to enhance her chest ^^.

Look closely and you can see the little fang, now that’s detail ^^. And then there’s the little bat wings.

I don’t really do a lot of pantsu shot, but for Sana it’s so easy to take the shot ^^.

Range Murata PSE Pro #05

My first exposure to Range Murata work was his character design in the anime Blue Submarine No.6 and more recently Last Exile but at the time I have no idea who’s Range Murata. Fast forward to last month, when I was at my local hobby store, paying for my Rosanna figure I chat with the guy there a bit about Shunya’s work. Later he mention about Range Murata and showed me some pictures of his work, especially UJ14 and some of his PSE trading figures. Only then I realise that he was the designer for one of my favourite anime Last Exile.

My attempt to hunt down his range of figure was in vain until I visit one of the branch of my local hobby store. That was where I found this figure PSE Pro #05. The figure itself is quite small being a 1/10, so I thought it would be quite cheap, but to my surprise it wasn’t, it cost as much as a 1/6 figure. Due to that I only made the purchase about a month later and luckily she was still there or I would really have regretted of not getting her sooner. Well enough of my ranting, now to the pictures ^^

Click for larger image

A very simple setting for these photos.

Even though the figure is quite small, only at about 15cm, she’s quite detail, especially on her bike.

Click for larger image

A little bit of stray paint on the sole of her boot, but only noticeable at close-up. The overall sculpt and paint work are clean and smooth.

Overall I am very satisfied with the quality of the figure, I have never bought anything by Beagle before but it seems they make quality stuff. Range Murata stuff are quite unique in design, I am definitely gonna be on a look out for any new stuff from him.

AnimeFest @ Taylor’s University College

Went to the AnimeFest organize by Taylor’s University College Anime Club at Subang today. A friend of mine was selling his figures at a booth there, so me and 2 others collectors decided to display our stuff there as well. The event was quite small, with just 2 doujinshi booth, and 3 other commercial booths including my friend’s. We were actually expecting something bigger, so I guess we were a bit disappointed of the size but since this is the first even where we are opening a booth I guess it’s ok.

There were cosplay competition, singing competition and PS2 competition during the event. As expected of the cosplayer, most comes in cosplaying characters from Naruto, Bleach and Death Note. There were some exception like there were some girls cosplaying as Éclair from Kiddy Grade, Haruhi from The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya respectively.

This was what my friend have for sale there and as expected the first one to sell of was the Max Factory Haruhi figure.

I didn’t really take a lot of pictures of the cosplayer and event as most of the ones I did try to take turn up dark because of the dim light and my PNS camera flash is not strong enough. I guess this is when I wish I have and DSLR :) , oh well this are the few shots that are of decent quality.

Some of the club members doing the Lucky Star dance, this is the first time I see this dance as I did not watch Lucky Star. I was hoping for Haruhi dance though.

Click for larger image

This is the hall the event as held, quite small, and the lighting is not good. There wasn’t a lot of people, maybe 200-300 people for the whole day I guess.

Click for larger image

This pair is the only cosplayer picture that came out ok, L and Misa from Death Note.

Click for larger image

The event wasn’t what we expected but we are still quite happy with what we achieve. Our booth was practically the center of attention, I think anyone that came with a camera will definitely have some photos of our booth. All the more professional photographers were taking photos of the figures one by one and there was a bunch of them too :) . So I guess we win the most photograph booth if there’s such a price ^^.

Another Haul!!! and Mirei?

Another haul ? Yup haha, looks like I am posting more photos of my haul than the figures itself, but I just had to post this one. Why? Well because Mirei is in it ^^ and no this Mirei is not the one I ordered from Animewild, I got this from my local store. I don’t know what happen to my Mirei from Animewild and they are not replying to my e-mails. Probably need to work out something on that soon.

Anyway beside Mirei, I got some re-ment pastries, a square barbie’s cushion/pillow thingy with some chinese take-outs and 3 firearms from  Hot Toys – Modern Firearms Collection2; a M14, a M41A R.I.S w/ M203 and a MP5 SD6.

Saber vs Saber

After the release of Revoltech Saber, Kaiyodo follow it up with Saber-Alter for their Revoltech 2G line. Saber-Alter came with the same packaging as Saber, only the colors are different. Included with her is an additional hair piece with her mask attached, her usual black and red sword and Excalibur. She comes with the same stand as Saber as well.

Click for larger image

On a barren wasteland, two warriors stood face to face unmove, until suddenly an unknown voice cuts through the silent “ACTION!!!”.

Click for larger image

With lighting reflexes both warriors spring to action, closing the distance between them in mere seconds, sword raise and ready for battle. The black warriors lunges with a foward thrust, easily block by the blue and silver warrior. The fight goes, both warriors slashing and parrying, thrusting and blocking, the sound of metal against metal rang continuously like a symphony of death.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

As their dance of death continues, the black warrior suddenly jumps up into the air and “CUT!!!!. Here comes the unknown voice again, and what does the voice means “Cut”, both warriors are already cutting each other and more importantly where does the voice comes from.

Click for larger image

And we see a head, a big head to be exact with a familiar looking yellow ribbons, who could this person be, who seems to be giving order to the two deadly warriors.

Unknown voice: No! No! No! both of you are suppose to jump together!
Warriors: Ok.
Unknown voice: ACTION!!!

Click for larger image

And the warriors continue to fight, bringing their dances of death to the air.

Click for larger image

And what is this, it looks like the blue and silver warrior is defeated.

Click for larger image

“CUT!!!” again comes the unknown voice. And what do we have here, we finally get to see the owner of the unknown voice. Seems like a school girl with a really big head, what are they feeding kids these days.

Click for larger image

She seems to be scolding the black warrior. It’s either she’s very brave or very stupid, anyway….

Schoolgirl with big head: NO!!!! You are suppose to lose remember, you are the bad guy and the bad guy don’t win, lets do this again.
Black warrior: Ooooo… I’ll get you for this.

Click for larger image

Seems like the situation been reserve and the black warrior kneel down in defeat. “CUT!!!!” came the voice again, I wonder what is wrong now.

Click for larger image

Oh it seems that this is the end

Schoolgirl with big head: Good work, Good work ^^
Blue and silver warrior: Thank you….
Black warrior: ……

Click for larger image

And the credit rolls… wait, where’s the black warrior ?

Click for larger image

Let’s zoom out to get a wider view. What’s that at the corner, seems to be the black warrior holding a very large weapon.

BAM!!!!!

A sniper rifle! this is suppose to be a medieval sets, why is there a sniper rifle????

Click for larger image

Oh no….. the schoolgirl with big head just lost her big head, and the black warrior is going for the blue and silver warrior now.

BAM!!!!

Click for larger image

As the schoolgirl with big head and the blue and silver warrior laid on the ground lifeless, we hear the maniacal laugh of the black warrior.

Black warrior: Ha ha ha, I won, hahhahhahahahha….. I have my revenge now…hahhahaa

10k hits and Ignis HDR

Kind of a strange combination in the title, well I was suppose to post Natsuki today but my camera is out of battery and while waiting for it to charge I thought I might as well post my first HDR pic to commemorate my first 10,000 hits.

Before we get to the photos I would like to thanks all those that have commented on and supported this blog. Thanks all, you guys been great ^^, I’ll continue to post more photos of my collection, I just hope you guys are not getting tired of my half-baked photography skills hehe ^^. Anyway enough of ranting, time for some photos…

This is the final result of the HDR image.

Click for larger image

These are the initial photos I took to be merge into the HDR image. I started with exposure +1 and decrease by 1 each time until -1.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

All these three photos were merge for HDR in photoshop, after some tweaking, the result I got was the first image posted above. The edge is a bit blurry though, probably because the original photos was not align properly. My camera doesn’t support bracketing so I had to manually adjust the exposure, that probably cause some movement to the camera and screw up the alignment.

Anyway I am quite satisfied with the final result but I wish the background wasn’t so dark though. Guess I need to try out HDR out more often before I can really come out with a nice HDR image.

Ice Queen ~ Natsuki Kuga

Natsuki is one of my favourite charater in My-Hime and I have always wanted to get a figure of her in biker suit cause it looks so cool, but alas there’s only 2 resin kit of her in biker suit with no pvc in sight. I am considering getting the resin kit and commission someone to built it for me but it gonna be costly though, so it’s still under consideration.

Anyhow, Griffon released a pvc of Natsuki sometime back, with her in school uniform holding her two guns. It was a figure that I have always wanted to get but the price is kinda expensive and she’s quite small too. When Play-Asia had her for sale at a very cheap price, I quickly ordered her, the price actually went down even more a week or two after I ordered, but wth it was still cheap when i got her.

Initial plan was to get a super bike for her photoshot, but due to Griffon strange sense of scale; Natsuki is actually the same size as my Alter 1/8 Hikaru Death Cloth, I had to scrap that plan as most die-cast bike is either too big or too small. They also don’t have a black color Ducati, which is the bike she rode in the manga and anime. In the end I just went for something simple, a super white shots hehe ^^, cause her element is ice, white should fit her nicely.

Click for larger image

First thing I notice when I took her out of the box is that her peg is on her foot and not the base, so she won’t be able to stand without the base. I dunno why Griffon decide to make it that way but it really sucks. Her base is the usual Griffon base with name plate and dark brown, very simple. Would have been nice if the base were to look like ice jutting out from the groud.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

The detail is nothing to shout about but it ain’t too bad either, at least the guns are nicely made.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Something common with most Griffon figure are the expressionless face, but it kinda fit Natsuki cause she’s pretty cool and serious in the anime.

Click for larger image

She got a very short skirt so pantsu shots are easy to take. Pink pantsu ftw ^^.

Click for larger image

Overall a nice figure though a bit simple and small for something that’s suppose to be 1/7 in size. I am still hoping for a pvc of her in biker suit cause I really like that version of her.

For these shots three lights were use instead of the usual 2, my usual main light is use as underlight to light up the bottom part so I had to use an emergency light as the front light. I think that screw up the white balance a bit so had to do a bit of editing in Photoshop. All the photos level are edited in Photoshop to make it brighter.

Final July haul and another Mirei? WTH is my photo doing on ebay

Today is the last day of July (for me at least), and just in time for me to post up my final July haul. Altogether I have bought 11 figures this month, this is a milestone for me as I have never bought this much figure in a single month since I started collecting about 6 months ago.

So what did I get this time, well there’s the last two Lamento figure Rai and Bardo, there’s Hikaru Death Cloth Ver. (I’ll have to thanks a fellow blogger aka_ugly for informing me of Hikaru availability at Hobby Search), and finally what’s that? What is Mirei doing in there, I have already posted Mirei haul didn’t I. Read on after the jump to find out why.

Click for larger image

Well, I have mention on my earlier Mirei haul post that I ordered Mirei from Animewild which was shipped last month, and after waiting for more than a month it still haven’t arrive. Well today she finally arrive together with my other shipment from Play-Asia, it took her exactly 43 days to arrive and I still do not know why it took so long. Well I am just glad Animewild redeem themself, but probably ain’t their fault, it’s the postal fault I would guess.

So now I got two Mirei, I still haven’t decided to sell her or to keep her, oh well plenty of time to decide on that.

Beside posting my final haul there’s another thing that I want to mention, something that really piss me off. A forumer from a forum that I frequent pm me today that he saw my photos of Wendy Garret being use by an ebay seller here. It really piss me off when I saw that, can’t he goddamn read that I specifically mention on my about page that I do not allow my photos to be use for commercial purpose. And here he’s just taking my photos and put it on his ebay page and he didn’t even remove the watermark ‘Toys Workz’ from it.

Have any of you encounter this situation before ? What do you guys do about it ? I have message the ebay seller not to use my photos but I don’t think he’ll even bother about it. Guess I just have to live with it huh….

涼宮ハルヒの憂鬱, Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu

I have never though that I would watch an anime about school girls because my taste usually range from stuff with mechs and loads of action. Seeing so many people interested in the anime Suzumiya Haruhi no Yūutsu and it’s line of figure got me curious and after some recommendation from friends I decided to give it a try.

I guess lot of people didn’t continue watching the series after the first episode, since it’s not the best benchmark to judge the rest of the series but it really got me hook. The first episode was so funny that I decided to continue watching the rest. Though watching it in anachronically can be a bit confusing at times but somehow the story does makes sense. After finish watching the anime, I officially join the rest of the Haruhiists out there and start buying anything that have to do with Haruhi ^^, well not that bad actually since I just bought the figures ^^.

Now kinda strange that I would write about anime right, since I have never done that on my blog, well read on to know why

Haruhi: Hmmmm… what’s that over there, looks interesting, let’s check it out Mikuru, Yuki.
Mikuru: Are you sure Haruhi? It looks dangerous….
Yuki: …
Haruhi: Come on Mikuru!

Haruhi: Hmmm it’s so colorful, I wonder what’s inside, maybe it’s alien or esper or time traveler.

There, this is what this post is about, Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya DVD 1 (Hyb) Special Limited Edition and also the first original anime dvd that I bought. I bought this about 2 weeks ago from Rightstuf when it was on sale for half of the retail price. Including shipping it cost me USD53.99 which I feel is quite a decent price, considering it comes with a nice box that you can use to store the rest of the dvds and cds, and also the other extra stuff.

I have never buy any anime dvd until now as original anime dvd are not available locally, all we get is bootleg from Taiwan and Hong Kong which are usually badly subbed. I have never thought of buying online either until aka_ugly introduce me to the site Rightstuf. Their normal price item is expensive for me but for those items on sales the price is just nice, and the shipping fees is not too expensive either and takes about 2 weeks to arrive which is pretty good for me.

I have already ordered Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya DVD 2 (Hyb) Special Limited Edition, but from Amazon instead since it was cheaper and also they have Evangelion Platinum version that I wanted. Both should arrive next week since I use priority shipping, more expensive but since both dvd cost me quite a lot, I want to get it ASAP ^^.

Mirei-san 海麗さん

Anyone who has been following my blog would know how much trouble I had to go through in getting her. There was a pre-order for her at Play-Asia before she was release but at the time I wasn’t that interested in getting her. After seeing the photos Danny posted at his blog, it got me really interested in getting this absolutely cute and sexy figure. So as usual I contacted my friend and only then did I found out that she’s actually a Kotobukiya online store exclusive and most shop that have her are selling at a premium price.

Fast forward about a month later, I searching through numerous sites for her I found that there’s a US release around end of June. I found her on pre-order at Anime Wild and without thinking too much about it I quickly pre-ordered her, which is something I’ll come to regret later. I should be happy that I manage to pre-order her right, but no, I waited and waited for her to arrive, a week past, 2 weeks…. and my numerous e-mail to them asking them about it did not get any reply. Later my local store have her in stock, and since I do not know what happen to my shipment from Anime Wild, I bought her from my local store instead, slightly more expensive though.

More than a week past and to my surprise she arrive after more than a month of waiting. So that’s how I ended up with two Mirei ^^. I posted in a local forum that I wanted to sell my second Mirei and I quickly got response and a few days after that, it’s time for me to say goodbye to my second Mirei as I ship her off.

Click for larger image

Mirei is sculpted by Houjun Otoyama and she comes with an extra hand and hair piece, so you can pose her with her hair down or up, and with her hand on her leg or holding a pen. I would have prefer her to come with the glasses as in the illustration though.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

She’s very well sculpted and painted, except for some painting chipping of on her right foot due to the removable shoe. That was more due to me putting on the shoe a bit too tight though.

Mirei and pastries ^^, good thing she can sit on the sofa, tried to sit her on the big pillow but that didn’t work though, so it become a sleeping pose instead :P

Mire in the office, this was the reason why it took me so long to do a Mirei photo-shoot. It took me quite sometime to build the wall and the table I am using for this shot, it wasn’t as easy to make as I first though haha. A lot more props were use in this shots but I think it came out pretty good ^^.

A final closeup shot of Mirei kawaii face. I did a lot of shots of her with her hair up as I prefer that look more ^^. She just look a lot more cuter and sexier with her hair up ^^.

Well after all the trouble I went through, I am really glad that I manage to get her, or two of her in the end, though the other one was sold off, I still own her for a few days. She’s the second figure based on Shunya Yamashita’s illustration that I have in my collection, the third was suppose to be Non-non but I have cancel my order on her, I’ll be getting Cocona instead which I like more.
