Kiddy Grade and Eureka Seven

Finally part of the Eureka Seven DVD I have ordered have arrived, here is volume 1-3, there’s still volume 4-9 on the way XD. Will post photos and screencap of them later. Bought another artbook, hmm well not actually an artbook, more like an anime guide to Kiddy Grade. Saw it at Kinokuniya so I quickly grab it since I been meaning to get this book ever since I saw it at Play-Asia. Have always been a fan of Kiddy Grade, and I just recently rewatch the series too, can’t wait for the movie and the new season to be release ^^

Click for larger image

The book is actually called Kiddy Grade Conclusion, here we have Eclair and Lumiere on the cover and the rest of the ES members on the back cover.

A very nice and sexy poster of Eclair and Lumiere.

Memory of the Rainbow

“A girl finds a rainbow colored shell on the beach the same morning that she meets a boy there. The boy has no memories, so the girl decides to take him in. Before long, the two fell in love with each other.

The boy is a soldier escaping from a battlefield world of ruins. But because of a transfer error, he lost his memory. The rainbow shell is the storage of his memories. The boy will return to his own world with his companions, but if he returns there now, his memories of this current world (with the girl) will disappear. He decides to put his memories into the rainbow shell, entrust the shell to the girl, and return to the battlefield.

The boy who had gone back to the battlefield returns to the girl’s world after the fighting is over. However, many tens of years have passed in this world. He finds the rainbow shell, inside of which contains his memories with the girl. But when he puts it up to his ear, he finds the shell broken – he can’t hear anything” ~ Memory of the Rainbow by Kaminagi Ryoko.

I never really plan to get this Ryoko figure by Alter probably cause she looks kinda simple and didn’t really catch my eyes. In the end I still got her more on impulse than anything when I saw her still available for pre-order at HLJ and I am glad I did. Though there’s nothing really exceptional about her, simple clothes, simple pose, but she’s just so well made. Her expression also really reflect her cheerful personality in the anime. I guess she’s the type of figure that is easy on the eye and the more you look at her the more you like her.

Click for larger image

Such cute face and nice smile ^^. Her hair is a simple affair though, not much detail on it and kinda spiky.

Click for larger image

A nice day to walk in the park. I wish I have the sky background that shino and aka_ugly used sometimes.

Click for larger image

Good thing she’s not from the same school with Haruhi otherwise Haruhi’s face will probably be in the pic now XD.

And as a student a classroom shot is a must XD.

A very good figure release by Alter and the sculptor Nishimura Naoki, very clean sculpt and painting. Only thing is she’s quite pricey for a figure of this size but then she’s the only figure from Zegapain that was ever release so there aren’t any alternative unless I want to get the Altair kit from Bandai ^^ which I heard it’s quite nice from shino. If only he would quickly finish building the kit and snap some shots of it XD.

The Angel from Hell

A lone figure stands on top of the building, unnoticed by the guards below. With guns in hands, the lone figure suddenly jumps off the edge of the building, twin guns blazing. In their confusion the guards never know what hits them, one by one they drop and by the time the lone figure landed, all the guards were down.

Standing up, this unknown assailant walks slowly into the warehouse, oblivious to the danger that waits inside, or does this person really know no fear. It’s other that should fear her, for she’s the Angel from Hell and no one can stand between her and the girl she’s trying to save, for Jo, Meg is everything to her.

Jo and Meg, image taken from Flamboyant by Ugetsu Hakua

OK I sucks at writing story haha, just trying something different, so I wrote something that Jo would do in-order to save Meg XD.

Anyway this figure of Jo from Alter, sculpted by Tanaka Touji was release quite a long time ago, in November 2005 to be exact. At the time I haven’t even started collecting figures yet, but I did watch the anime Burst Angel (Bakuretsu Tenshi) and have always like the character design in the anime. I manage to get this figure from a local forumer who was selling of some of his figures, the price was cheap and she was in good condition, the rest is history and one more figure is added to my growing collection. Now all I need to do is find Alter Meg and the duo will be complete.

Click for larger image

A very well sculpted and painted figure with no noticeable flaw. The detail is good, with her wind blown jacket and scarf giving her a more dynamic look. The jacket does makes her back heavy though, which makes it impossible for her to stand without the base unless the jacket is taken off. There’s one very bad flaw though but only visible if the jacket is taken off.

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

This is the bad flaw, a very visible seamline on the joint between her arm and shoulder, but she looks better with the jacket on anyway so it’s ok I guess. At least the tattoo is detail enough. But with the jacket on only the arm tattoo is visible, hmmm I totally forgot to take a shot of the back tattoo XD.

Click for larger image

Trying out something new with the following two shots. I have seen some pictures in Replicant Works where there’s a reflection of the figure in the shots. So wanted to try it out, and somehow it works but only if using black background though :) .

Click for larger image

Click for larger image

Overall she’s a very nice figure and the quality is as expected for something from Alter. Not sure whether it’s easy to get her now, but I am glad that I manage to buy her off another forumer, and save me some money in the process :) .

A shot of all the girls with guns figures that I have, and coincidentally all of them uses two guns and except for Natsuki, the rest are all from Alter.

Eureka Seven Vol. 10

Eureka Seven or Psalms of Planets Eureka Seven (交響詩篇エウレカセブン) as it is known in Japan. The anime is revolve around Renton and the group Gekkostate and also his relationship with the mysterious mecha pilot Eureka. The anime run from April 2005 to April 2006 for a total of 50 episodes. Three video games based on the anime were also produced and also a manga series. During it’s original Japanese run, it won multiple awards at the 2006 Tokyo International Anime Fair, it also won an award at the 20th Digital Content Grand Prix and voted “Best DVD series of the Year” by Anime Insider in 2006. – source from wikipedia

Eureka Seven Vol. 10 Special Edition

Finally got my Eureka Seven vol. 10, 2 more volumes to go and I’ll have the complete set and I can finally start watching it ^^. This volume contains episode 39-42, and comes with a white color t-shirt and Gravity Boy and Lifting Girl manga vol. 1 but there’s one thing it didn’t comes with, the slide in box that suppose to hold the DVD, t-shirt and stuff. Yup someone it got through QC even though it was very obvious something was missing haha. It’s ok though since I don’t use the box anyway, just finds it funny :D .

Click for larger image

We have another Renton and Eureka and Renton and Nirvash cover, they are the main characters after all. Finally I can use Eureka as the accompanying figure for these shots ^^.

Vol. 11 will be release in January 2008 so Vol. 12, the last volume, will probably be release sometime in April 2008, such a long wait. Looks like I can only watch the anime next year, I guess that’s the problem when buying anime DVD, the long long wait to complete it.

Super Dimension Fortress Macross ~ 超時空要塞マクロス

Macross was the one of the first anime that I watched and spark my interest in anime. I have been meaning to get the DVD for the series for the longest time since I never did manage to watch the whole thing on TV, but never got to it until now. I have just finish watching it before I wrote this post, and the feeling is great, the anime maybe old but it’s still a good anime ^^.

I guess some of the younger generation (yes I am not young anymore *sigh*) probably doesn’t know much about this series. Macross is a love story against the backdrop of an epic battle between human and alien forces. Yup despite all the mecha and fighting, it’s actually a love story between some of the main characters. The series also have some of the nicest songs in an anime, sang by her voice actress Mari Iijima who also wrote some of the songs in the series. For more information about this series just head over to this link.

Click for larger image

This is probably the best Macross box set to be released. AnimeEigo digitally restored, enhanced and transfer this unedited and uncut version of the original Macross TV series. It was first release as a 3 box set and later was combined into a single box set. Included in this sets are detailed liner notes on each episodes, the mecha, characters and technology.

Different important characters from the series adorned the cover of each DVD case, seen here are Ichijo Hikaru, Kamjin and Misa Hayase.

And on the last 3 DVD covers are Misa Hayase, Lap’lamiz and the transformed Macross.

After watching this series again, I am looking forward to Macross F which will be release in 2008, celebrating the 25th anniversary of the original Macross. Macross F will be a direct sequel to Macross 7. I should probably take some time to watch Macross Zero, prequel to the original Macross, never did finish watching it when it was released as an OVA, the disc probably somewhere in my DVD album XD.

Totally forgot that I also have the soundtrack to the series, bought it quite a long time ago, disc still play fine though haha. It contains all the songs and music from the series.

Comic Fiesta 2007

After our first exhibit at Anime Fest in June, we were looking forward to Comic Fiesta ’07 which was held at Times Square last weekend. After all it’s one of the bigger anime event to be held locally, which means more visitors and more cosplayers.

My company dinner was on the day before we were gonna be exhibiting, so I was dead tired when I was back, and had to pack up the 20 figures to I’ll be bringing to the event. All together I use 2 big boxes and 2 smaller boxes for transport my figures, they were all wrapped only in paper, I was praying the whole time that nothing breaks during transport. Fortunately my prayer was answered phew. Took a photo of the boxes before I left home in the morning ^^.

Lots of photos after the jump, 56kers beware ^^.

Click for larger image

The turn out for the event was good, lots of people around and as usual our booth was quite crowded ^^ with visitors taking photos. There’s dslr, handphone cam, PnS and any other electronics that can be use to take photos.

Click for larger image

The guy who made it all possible ^^.

Click for larger image

Next time instead of just putting up strictly no touching sign, I think we probably need to put up becareful with your lens and elbow XD.

The crowds and the rows of figures ^^.

Click for larger image

That’s the entrance to the hall, the place was quite pack, making it hard to move around.

More photographers, this time armed with dslr.

Not sure what he’s suppose to be cosplaying, he was hanging around near our booth so I just too a photo of him. The armor is quite cool, now all he needs is a big ass sword.

Tried to take photos of the Hare Hare Yukai dance but lens not long enough, need a 75-300 maybe haha.

Some cosplayers photos that I manage to take, not much though, coz I lend my battery to another photographer, hopefully he’ll send some of the photos he took to me soon.

Click for larger image

The aftermath, it’s time to go home, with everything pack and ready to go.

Click for larger image

Some stuff that I got for free haha coz as usual I didn’t buy anything XD.

Click for larger image

I find this event is much more exciting and happening than the previous one that we went to, probably coz they been having this for a few years now. The venue is nice and easily accessible, best of all the lighting is good, especially since our booth is near the window so we get some natural light as long as it doesn’t rain anyway.

There are more variety of cosplayers around, instead of just Naruto and Bleach, apparently there was a Shana but I didn’t saw her, though I did see Mikuru, see if you can spot her in the Hare Hare Yukai dance photos. Someone even setup a proper area for cosplayer to take photos, with clean background and lighting.

As usual our figures display are quite well received with lots of visitors taking photos. So this is something that we probably gonna do again, but definitely need to improve on the logistic haha, it’s still quite a nightmare XD. It was also great meeting some fellow figures collectors that visited our booth on that day, we should probably do a gathering of sort someday ^^.

Photo outing @ KL Bird Park

The second Lowyat.net photographers outing was held on Saturday 19th, the destination this time was KL Bird Park, seems like the birds at the National Zoo was not enough to satisfy our craze for some bird shoot :) . More forumers and their spouse atteded this time totaling to about 30 people. I see some familiar faces and some new faces, and not only that, there are new gears to test out as well.

Click for larger image

As usual everyone meet-up at the entrance, getting to know each other, and testing out other photogs new gear. This was taken using weileongz Canon EF 70-200 f/4 L lens. Subsequent photos are taken with the same lens as well.

Click for larger image

Lets start it off with a peacock in all its majestic beauty.

Click for larger image

Another peacock, the 70-200 f/4 L produces a nice bokeh effect. I keep forgetting that the lens doesn’t have IS so got some blur photos sometimes.

Another great outing, and this time some of the photogs came with new gears, so we got to try it out as well. This time I was using three different lens for the shoot, a 70-200mm f/4 L, a 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS, and my own 100mm f/2.8 Macro. Camera still the same EOS 400D/Rebel XTi.

Motoko Kusanagi

Motoko Kusanagi is one of the main character in Masamune Shirow’s Ghost in the Shell series. This figure is based on her appearance in the movie Ghost in the Shell S.A.C. Solid State Society. There are two Motoko figures that I like, this is one of them, the other is the one release by Alter last year if I not mistaken, where she’s holding a handgun.

This figure is suppose to be Amazon Japan limited if I am not mistaken, but somehow my local shop manage to get a few of her. I have been tempted to get her for quite sometime but decided to wait for my local shop sales before I grab her, fortunately she was still available during the recent sales.

Wish I had a matrix like background for the shoot, but a black bg is all I have that suits her. She came with a transparent green base with the name of the movie she’s based from on it. She can stand perfectly well without the base though. The one thing that really attract me to this version of her is the trench coat, it just looks so cool.

Detail and sculpt are pretty good, and the paint job as well, but then she doesn’t have a lot of colors ^^. The sunglasses is kinda plain though, and kinda scratch too.

Not much shots this time around, she doesn’t really have a lot of angle that I can shoot from anyway. Well for more photos of her head over to lu-k’s blog.

Well I am glad I manage to get her cheaper due to sales ^^. I find that during sales, it’s the time when I start buying figures that I never though I’ll get or figures that I decide to skip when released due to budget reason. It’s also the time when I spend more on figures than I should xD.

To Love-Ru ~ Lala

Finally found some time to do some photoshoot of my figures =P, still got quite a number to go though haha. Decided to start off with Alpha Omega 1/8 Lala and Yami, couldn’t think of what kind of background or props to use, so I just went back to basic instead XD.

Lala Satalin Deviluke, the princess of Deviluke from the anime To Love-Ru, got her a while back when she came in stock at PlayAsia. I actually prefer Yami more, but Lala is pretty cute too xD. (will be posting Yami photoshoot soon =D). GSC have also release a version of Lala in different costume, quite nice as well, but I decided to get Alpha Omega version instead since I already have AO Yami.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Alpha Omega been churning out some pretty decent figures, previously I got their Code Geass Kallen, and now Lala and Yami. Lala design and sculpt is pretty simple, even the base she came with is simple, a round white base with the word To Love-Ru on it. Well simple is nice too XD.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

She looks good in the uniform, hmm actually she looks good in anything she wore in the anime, I prefer the uniform to the white costume GSC Lala is based on though.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Nice hair sculpt, though I would have prefer them to be in strands rather than big bunch up together.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Her eyes decal are quite reflective though, more reflective than the other figures that I have, so have to keep the direct light away from her eyes during the shoot.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Close-up of Peke, Lala costume robot, wouldn’t it be nice to have a costume robot like this haha.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Lala Satalin Deviluke

NICE BAG, XD.

Lala Satalin Deviluke

Overall another good figure from Alpha Omega, only thing to complain about Lala is she shakes a lot, her leg is made of normal PVC instead of ABS, so it’s softer, I just hope she doesn’t lean overtime. Placed her in my shelf instead of on my table, since she keep shaking like crazy haha.

Cloud Strife & hardy-DAYTONA

I have been meaning to get this figure of Cloud and hardy-DAYTONA ever since I saw the pre-order quite sometime back but the price kept me from pre-odering it. I have actually totally forgot about this figure until it was release recently and I have been contemplating whether to order it from Hobby Search. The shipping gonna be costly though due to the box huge size and add to the figure high price, it’ll probably cost me around 13k yen at least and that kept me from ordering it on a whim.

A recent trip to my local proof to be most rewarding, I was only planing to go there to collect my Nendoroid Tsuraya but I left the shop with Cloud + hardy-DAYTONA and Nendoroid Tsuraya instead. The price was much lower than what I would have paid for at HS and with a bit of extra discount to boot ^^.

The huge box is due to the size of the bike, which I think is slightly shorter than the FFVII: AC Cloud + Fenrir set. Cloud comes with his Buster Sword, 3 additional hand and a base, which he doesn’t need unless it’s for some sort of jumping or flying pose ^^.

Cloud sculpt is decent at best, the plastic looks too shiny and the skin color looks too unnatural. The sculpt and paint job his clothing and sword looks ok though. The joints on the arm are very visible and a bit lose on some part, wish Square Enix would have done a better job on the joints. Seems like all their Play Arts action figures have very visible joints. The figure itself is quite cheap actually, so the high price for this set is because of the bike.

Posing the figure is not too hard fortunately, and he’s capable of doing quite a number of action pose ^^. I just hope the joints won’t get lose overtime.

The bike is the star of this set in my opinion, the detail and paint job on it is superb. I think it’s fully made of pvc though with no die-cast parts, I guess if it have die-cast parts it’ll definitely cost more. The built is quite solid, but I wouldn’t want to drop it though, some of the smaller parts probably will break if it’s drop.

With the purchase of Cloud + hardy-DAYTONA, I am thinking of getting Tifa and Aerith to go together with Cloud. They are not too expensive at USD46.2 each at my local store. Probably will grab both of them the next time I go there.

The shoot
Well usually I don’t write anything on how the shoot was done, since most of the time it’s pretty standard. For this shoot is different though, it’s the first time I use a flash in my figure shoot. I put one of my usual lamp on the right and above the figure. A flash is mounted on the camera to act as the main light, most of the time it’s bounce from the wall behind me, at times I’ll bounce it using a white cardboard.

Flash output is lowered to between -2 1/3 to -3, otherwise the light will be too bright, which is not what I wanted as I want to keep the background dark. The result were pretty good, just that I get a bit dizzy after all the flashing XD. This is also the first time I connect my camera to my new laptop for the shoot, much more convenient than connecting to my desktop.
